Position Overview:

Covenant’s current priority is to bring young people in our city to know Christ as Lord. We are committed to investing in the staff and budget at the highest level to build a thriving youth program. The Associate Pastor for Youth and Families (“AP”) will serve as the “department head” of our ministries to young people with the following duties:

•  Lead Covenant’s 5-year vision to grow the number of youth and children in weekly programming.
•  Innovate fresh ways to connect young people to the gospel.
•  Prepare programming for the weekly discipleship programs for youth.
•  Supervise Director of Children’s Ministry for weekly programs for children.
•  Equip youth to serve through mission projects & leadership opportunies.
•  Build relationships with students inside & outside church through contact work.
•  Challenge youth to grow in faith and share the gospel through evangelism.
•  Train team of adult volunteers; ensure they feel equipped and valued.
•  Lead major events including mission trips, Youth Sunday, retreats, etc.
•  Foster a high level of collaboration with church staff and leadership.
•  Demonstrate excellence in documentation and communication (attendance database, cloud-based management software, calendar, trip forms, child safety policy, phone, text, email)
•  Occasional preaching & pastoral care visits.
•  Culvate a personal relaonship with Jesus and maintain healthy relationships with family and friends.
• Additionally, the AP is responsible for upholding Biblical priorities and core values of Covenant. The AP should present a growing personal relationship with Christ and will be called to adhere to and encompass the qualies and characteristics required of Covenant employees, as defined by the Staff Handbook.
• Desired Qualities and Responsibilities:
• We have very ambitious goals to more than double the size of our Youth Group within 36 months. The Youth Pastor will need to be very focused and disciplined to achieve this goal, acting like a missionary to the young people and families in our church and in the surrounding neighborhood. It will require excellent leadership, creavity, and courage. The ideal candidate will be highly relational and highly organized. They should be able to build relationships with both students and with adult volunteers and keep track of the details in communicating with other staff and teammates. They should also have an entrepreneurial vision, able to try new things to reach more kids and grow God’s kingdom.
• Education and Denomination:
•  Bachelor’s required, MDiv Preferred.
•  Covenant is a conservative evangelical church within the PC(USA), affiliated with the Fellowship Community of Presbyterians. The AP can be of any denomination but should be willing to transfer to the PC(USA) upon hire.
