Here is a profile of the teachers we invite to join us and invest in our scholars. ● Call: We seek teachers who have been called by God, through the saving work of Christ alone, to follow Him in wholehearted obedience to His Word, the Bible, and who have a strong commitment to their local church. ● Character: We expect teachers to pursue a God-honoring life in their personal lives and their interactions with others in our Hope Academy community. We want our teachers to be among our scholars’ greatest role models. ● Commitment: We look for teachers who have a commitment to invest in the lives of struggling urban youth in our Bronx neighborhood. We ask for a one-year commitment, prefer a two-year commitment, and are thrilled when a gifted teacher who is a good fit decides to make a career of teaching here. ● Competence: We need teachers who have a solid grasp of their content area, are able to teach well, and can respond to the academic challenges of our scholars. A HA teacher may only teach a small number of scholars but may teach several subjects to those scholars and will need to intentionally prepare lessons and tutoring interventions that will maximize each scholar’s learning. ● Compensation: We realize teachers will need to live sacrificially in order to live in New York City on a Hope Academy salary. Sharing living space and expenses is encouraged. Raising support to be part of this valuable ministry is an option, and we can connect you with an organization to help with that if you desire.
